Bathroom Mould — The 7-Point Prevention Checklist

Bathrooms combine everything mould loves: warm air, wet surfaces, poor ventilation and cold external walls. If yours grows black spots in the grout or corners within weeks of a clean, it's a ventilation and surface-treatment problem — not a cleaning problem.

The 7-point checklist

• Fit or replace the extractor fan — must run for 15 minutes AFTER every shower.
• Leave the bathroom door open for 30 minutes post-shower to let humidity escape.
• Squeegee tiles and shower glass after use (30 seconds, biggest single win).
• Reseal any cracked silicone around bath, basin and shower — it's the #1 mould entry point.
• Check the ceiling for water stains — a slow roof leak often shows up here first.
• Treat the external wall of the bathroom with Damp Gone Xtreme if it faces south or west.
• Once a month, wipe grout and silicone with a fungicidal cleaner (not just bleach).
